All projects and activities listed relate to National Garden Clubs, Inc, and Texas Garden Clubs, Inc.

CONTINUING PROJECTS

           Arbor Day Observance (P*, C*)

Christina Rizzo, Chairman
Plant a tree after the January meeting at the VA Hospital’s Fischer House. Fisher House provides temporary lodging to families of hospitalized VA patients.  Clubs may make financial contributions to the Arbor Day Fund. 

            Botanic Garden of Houston

Margarette Jones, Liaison
Support effort to build a botanic garden for Houston.  Visit BotanicgardenofHouston.org  for information on the site. Clubs may contribute to this project. 

           Community Service Christmas Projects (P*,C*)

            Collect Toys

Hazel Potvin, Chairman
Clubs and individuals bring toys for distribution to needy children through the auspices of Star of Hope Mission, Dec. 14 at the Houston Garden Center. 

            Purchase Poinsettias

Sara Chumley, Chairman
Purchase poinsettias for distribution to area nursing homes, hospitals and/or shelters.  Clubs and individuals are asked to make financial contributions to the Poinsettia Fund. 

        Flowers/Plants for VAHospital Chapel (P, C)

Continuing the tradition of  clubs or individuals placing flowers in the VA Hospital Chapel that was started by Houston Council of Garden Clubs over 60 years ago.  Clubs sign up with the chairman. 

        Margaret Sharpe Memorial Rose Garden (P, C)

        Mary Lou Hakanson, Liaison
        Located on the University of Houston campus, this garden is a memorial to a founder of the Texas Rose
        Rustlers and former President of Federation.  Clubs are asked to contribute to this project now in phase two. 

        Support the Houston Civic Garden Center (P, C)

Beth Campbell, Christmas Decorations Chairman
Federation is working with the Hermann Park Conservancy and the City of Houston in planning the future of the Garden Center.  Federation maintains the inside plants at the Garden Center and decorates the building for Christmas. 

  World Gardening – “Seeds for Life”

        Clubs may donate commercially packaged vegetable or flower seeds at each Federation meeting.  Seeds are
        sent to third world countries to benefit low income families.

   NEW  PROJECTS

      Youth Gardening

      Mary Hall, Chairman

        Encourage and supply support and resources for clubs working with young people in organized youth clubs,    
        community organizations, schools, churches, neighborhoods or a club member’s front porch.  Contact the 
        chairman to let Federation know how your club is or wants to be working with young people and let Federation 
        serve you.

      Decorate the outside of the Garden Center for Christmas

     Federation will partner with other organizations that meet at the Garden Center to provide lights and decorations
     for the outside entrance.
